About the New England Collegiate Volleyball League
|
|
The New England Collegiate Volleyball League was established in 1972. The goal of the NECVL is to provide a competitive league for schools that sponsor a men's collegiate club volleyball program.
The league consists of nearly 40 teams including schools from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont competing in two Divisions, with many teams competing in the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) National Championships.
The NECVL is a proud member of the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCVF). |

2008-2009 Eligibility Guidelines
Team Roster
A roster must be filed with the league secretary by no later than January 25th, 2009. If you have a player(s) that is a graduating senior, and taking less than the required hours to fulfill their graduation requirements, please submit a letter from the registrar stating that fact.
Player Eligibility
- Enrolled student with a minimum of 1/2 full-time enrollment as an undergraduate or minimum of six hours as a classified graduate student of the representing institution, throughout 2009 NECVL season.
- Not listed as a member of a varsity sport (or on "Squad List") in the same or related activity and gender during the 2008-09 academic year. Exceptions will be granted for players who were listed on a "Squad List" for less than three weeks.
- Never been declared a professional player in the same or related activity.
Additional Player Guidelines
- Players are limited to six years of consecutive participation in NECVL/NIRSA events. Year one begins the first year a player's name appears on a NECVL/NIRSA roster OR the first year their name was listed on a "varsity squad list" of any 2-year or 4-year college varsity team.
- Exceptions may be granted in the case of six years of consecutive eligibility for the NECVL/NIRSA events to players that meet certain criteria, AND submit a formal request in writing. Exceptions may be granted for "mandatory" military or religious service. Requests for exceptions should be mailed at least 7 days prior to the first day of NECVL competition.
- Players must be enrolled for the minimum number of credit hours, at least 45 days prior to the start of the championship event.
- A professional athlete is one who receives any kind of payment, directly or indirectly, for athletics participation or who has participated with a professional team. A professional athletics team is any organized team that provides any of its players more than actual and necessary expenses for participation on the team and/or declares itself to be professional.
- A player is eligible for NECVL events if they are listed on a varsity team's "Squad List" for less than three weeks.
Team Eligibility
- All team players must attend the same institution from any two (2) or four (4) year degree-granting college or university.
- Female players are allowed to participate in the league. While there is no limit to the number of females on a team roster for any NECVL competition,a maximum of two female players may be on the court during a set for one team at the same time.
- Teams are limited to no more than two former varsity players (A former varsity player is defined as a student who has been listed on the "school's varsity squad list" for any 2 year or 4 year college/university team for greater than three weeks).
Rules of Play:
USAV Rules will be used with following rules/modifications adopted:
- Libero Serving – The Libero will be allowed to serve in one rotation. The Libero is designated by each game instead of match.
- Scoring - Scoring will remain with rally score to 25 points in all non-deciding games and rally score to 15 points in all deciding games. Win by two. Best 2 of 3 games.
- If a team is reduced to less than 6 healthy players, they will be allowed to continue in the competition if they wish, but will play with a hole in their lineup. Only one ghost player will be allowed.
- Uniform Rules in effect for the 2007-2008 season include; Uniform numbers (1-99) must be clearly visible placed on the jersey at the center of front and the back. The numbers must be a minimum of 4" on the chest and 6" on the back. (6" and 8" are recommended) All shorts must be same (except libero). Libero uniform must be a contrasting color and should not include any color from the regular team jersey (except for the color of the numbers). Color combinations such as purple/black, dark green/black or navy/maroon are not distinctive enough to comply with the rules.
Weather Cancellation and Forfeit policy:
All teams are expected to attend league tournaments that are not cancelled by the league and hosting schools. If a team decides not to show up when a tournament is not cancelled, forfeit wins will be given following USAV protocol.
Any team granted a forfeit win may opt to play the match in lieu of accepting the forfeit. In this case the match must be played at least two weeks prior to the league championship dates. "No show" team will be responsible for securing a site and pay for the cost of officials.
Qualification for Division 1:
Limit to 16 teams
Executive Board will make the decision based on past records, performance at nationals, number of returning players, etc.
Division 1 and 2 Championships Qualification:
Up to ten teams in each division will be invited to the Championships.
Division 1 will take 10 teams. Division 2 will use 50 % rule.
Automatic Qualifiers:
The 1st and 2nd place teams in each conference(division)
The 1st and 2nd place teams in each Interdivisional tournament
At-Large Qualifiers:
The field is then rounded out by using total W/L record of each team during NECVL Divisional and Interdivisional results.
All ties will be addressed by USAV Rules with one addition (point 5)
1. Divisional match record
2. Head-to-head match result (within same division)
3. Head-to-head point differential (within same division)
4. Overall point differential (within same division)
5. Overall winning percentage (includes both divisional and interdivisional tournaments
6. Coin toss.
