About the New England Collegiate Volleyball League
The New England Collegiate Volleyball League was established in 1972. The goal of the NECVL is to provide a competitive league for schools that sponsor a men's collegiate club volleyball program.

The league consists of nearly 40 teams including schools from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont competing in two Divisions, with many teams competing in the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) National Championships.

The NECVL is a proud member of the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCVF).

Policies

Last updated January 1st, 2007

NECVL Eligibility:

All members of a team (no matter what division) must be enrolled for a minimum of three-fourths of full time enrollment as an undergraduate student or 6 (six) or more credit hours as a classified graduate student at the institution they represent, throughout the spring semester.

A roster must be filed with the league secretary by no later than January 26, 2007.
If you have a player(s) that is a graduating senior, and taking less than the required hours to fulfill their graduation requirements, please submit a letter from the registrar stating that fact.

All players will be limited to maximum 6 years of eligibility (same as NIRSA).
Female players are allowed to participate in the league.
While there is no limit to the number of females on a team roster for NECVL competition,a maximum of two female players may be on the court during a set(game) for one team at the same time.

All current varsity athletes (2006-07) are ineligible to participate.
Each team is limited to no more than 2 former varsity athletes on their roster, male or female.

Varsity Athlete Definition:
A student who by definition of any 2-year or 4-year college or university's athletic department has been listed on the school's active varsity roster for the college/university team in at least one scheduled athletic contest. The exception to this rule will be student's who's only year of activity was as a redshirt. They will not count as a former varsity athlete.

Professional players will not be allowed to participate. Any player who is listed as an AVP professional, European, or any other sanctioned professional league/club is ineligible for participation in NECVL.
Rules of Play:

USAV Rules will be used with following rules/modifications adopted:
• Libero Serving – The Libero will be allowed to serve in one rotation. The Libero is designated by each game instead of match.

•Scoring - Scoring will remain with rally score to 25 points in all non-deciding games and rally score to 15 points in all deciding games. Win by two. Best 2 of 3 games.

• If a team is reduced to less than 6 healthy players, they will be allowed to continue in the competition if they wish, but will play with a hole in their lineup. Only one ghost player will be allowed.

• Uniform Rules in effect for the 2007-2008 season include; Uniform numbers (1-99) must be clearly visible placed on the jersey at the center of front and the back. The numbers must be a minimum of 4" on the chest and 6" on the back. (6" and 8" are recommended) All shorts must be same (except libero). Libero uniform must be a contrasting color and should not include any color from the regular team jersey (except for the color of the numbers). Color combinations such as purple/black, dark green/black or navy/maroon are not distinctive enough to comply with the rules.
Weather Cancellation and Forfeit policy:
All teams are expected to attend league tournaments that are not cancelled by the league and hosting schools. If a team decides not to show up when a tournament is not cancelled, forfeit wins will be given following USAV protocol.

Any team granted a forfeit win may opt to play the match in lieu of accepting the forfeit. In this case the match must be played at least two weeks prior to the league championship dates. “No show” team will be responsible for securing a site and pay for the cost of officials.
Qualification for Division 1:
Limit to 16 teams Executive Board will make the decision based on past records, performance at nationals, number of returning players, etc.

Division 1 and 2 Championships Qualification:
Up to ten teams in each division will be invited to the Championships.
Division 1 will take 10 teams. Division 2 will use 50 % rule.

Automatic Qualifiers:
The 1st and 2nd place teams in each conference(division)
The 1st and 2nd place teams in each Interdivisional tournament

At-Large Qualifiers:
The field is then rounded out by using total W/L record of each team during NECVL Divisional and Interdivisional results.

All ties will be addressed by USAV Rules with one addition (point 5)
1. Divisional match record
2. Head-to-head match result (within same division)
3. Head-to-head point differential (within same division)
4. Overall point differential (within same division)
5. Overall winning percentage (includes both divisional and interdivisional tournaments
6. Coin toss.
